History
The Henderson Community Garden has been in operation since 1981. It is sponsored
by Food for People and is currently the only community garden in Eureka.
Who gardens here?
The Food Bank seeks to provide small gardening plots for a nominal fee to
individuals who have little or no land of their own to grow food on. Currently
there are 16 plots being cultivated at the garden. Workshops on gardening and
packets of seeds are offered to the gardeners.
How are plots assigned?
Plots are provided on a first come, first serve basis. To request a plot, please
contact Katie Harbaugh. Currently there is a waiting
list for plot space. The rental fee for one year is $50; this goes to pay the
water bill at the garden.
Helping the Community Garden thrive
Garden maintenance is done by members as well as outside volunteers. Volunteers
are vital to the health and growth of the garden. You can aid the Community
Garden in any of these ways:
· Volunteer to work during semi-regular garden cleanups
· Make a monetary donation to cover the costs of running the garden
· Donate the use of equipment during garden cleanups (trimmers, mowers, etc.)
