Farm Gleaning Program

The Farm Gleaning Program has worked to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to hungry citizens in Humboldt County for six years. This food recovery project accesses surplus produce from farms, orchards, and backyard gardens. Through the gracious efforts of our volunteer gleaners and the generosity of area farmers, we have distributed over 100,000 pounds of fresh produce to food bank clients since 2001. We invite you to join with us in the Gleaning Program by   volunteering your time to aid our second harvest efforts and by supporting the farmers that donate to us.

How can you get involved?

·  Volunteer your time harvesting excess produce at area farms

·  Become a member of our Plant a Row for the Hungry program--plant an extra row of vegetables in your home garden and donate them to the Food Bank.

·  Make a monetary donation to support the Gleaning Program. If you live in a remote region of the County, contact Food for People's Gleaning Coordinator and find out how you can start your own Gleaning Program in your community.

·  If you are a farmer, invite the Food Bank's volunteers to come glean after you have finished harvesting

Please contact the Gleaning Coordinator if you would like to contribute in any of these ways.
