Virtual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Virtual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

The annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive has  been postponed due to covid, but don’t worry you can still help Stamp Out Hunger this summer!

Triple your impact through a virtual food drive!

With Food for People’s wholesale buying power, we can take the money you would use to buy ONE bag of groceries and turn it into THREE.

This is especially helpful this year as Food for People works to rebuild their main facility on 14th St. following the extensive damage caused by the sewer inundation of February 28th. We have limited leased space available to store donated foods but you can help us navigate space constraints by donating funds to go towards the greatest needs of the food bank as needed and as space is available.

Or drop a nonperishable food donation in a barrel. During the month of May donation barrels will be hosted at:

  • Eureka's Henderson Center Post Office (2906 F St)
  • Eureka's Clark Street Post Office (337 W Clark St)
  • Eureka - H Street Post Office (514 H St)
  • Eureka - North Coast Co-op (25 4th St)
  • Eureka Natural Foods (1450 Broadway St)
  • Arcata - Wildberries Marketplace  (747 13th St)
  • McKinleyville - Post Office (1561 City Center Rd)

For more than 25 years Letter Carriers nationwide have coordinated the “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive. In Humboldt County, community members were encouraged to fill up bags with food donations which our local letter carriers pick up and deliver to the Food for People to be distributed to people in need countywide. The food drive's timing is key, because by this time winter holiday donations have dwindled while food banks and pantries faces a surge in need as families prepare for a summer where school meals are not as easily accessible. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, forced the postponement of the food drive historically scheduled for the second Saturday in May for safety reasons—even as the pandemic-related economic shutdown has worsened food insecurity.

To deal with this urgent situation, our local Letter Carriers and Food for People are asking the community to participate in pandemic safe Virtual Food Drive - MAKE YOUR DOANTON TODAY!
