COVID-19 CalFresh

  • CalFresh Emergency Allotments (extra benefits) ended February 2023

CalFresh participants will still receive regular monthly benefits, but not the extra benefits that were provided during the pandemic. CalFresh Emergency Allotments (EA), which were additional benefits granted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ended in February 2023 and were deposited onto EBT cards in March 2023. As a result, CalFresh participants started seeing less in CalFresh dollars on their benefits cards beginning in April 2023.

The regular CalFresh benefit a household gets is the CalFresh amount put onto its EBT card between the 1st and 10th of each month. The regular benefit amount is based on the household’s circumstances, including household size, income, and deductions.

Please remember that unused CalFresh benefits will roll over into the next month. Remaining EA benefits do not have to be spent within the month of deposit and the CalFresh case is active and the card is used at least once in 9 months.

  • Pandemic EBT for Children

P-EBT 4.0 was the fourth and final version of the P-EBT program following the expiration of the federal Public Health Emergency on May 11, 2023. P-EBT cards were mailed out August through September 2023.

Though Pandemic EBT has ended, there is a new Summer EBT program starting in 2024 for children to receive extra benefits in the summertime: SUN Bucks!
