Cider for People

Last fall we received an abundance of donations of apples to our Gleaning program, but some of the apples could not be distributed in our food pantries, so in order to divert them from the waste stream we partnered with Humboldt Cider Co. to turn them into cider! This is the 3rd year we’ve collaborated with Humboldt Cider Co. to produce “Cider for People.”

The release party for “Cider for People” took place on Friday, April 5 at Humboldt Cider Co.’s new tap room at 2901 Hubbard Ln in Eureka. There was a fantastic turnout of people who came to try this one-of-a-kind, limited-edition cider and raise money for Food for People. Our raffle brought in over $500 with great prizes from North Coast Growers Association, Dead Reckoning, Bootlegger Bagels, Backwood Burritos, Humboldt Hot Sauce, Dan McHugh, Moonstone Crossing Winery, Foggy Bottoms Boys, Finnish Country Sauna and Hot Tubs, and Humboldt Cider Co.

In total, Humboldt Cider Co. made 236 gallons of cider, or 1,888 pints, from over 3,300 pounds of apples that were donated. Humboldt Cider Co. will donate $1 from each pint sold to Food for People for a total donation of $1,888. We’re so grateful for this collaboration and look forward to continuing our partnership in the future.
