Spiced Apple or Pear Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 apples or pears

  • Pinch of cinnamon or piece of cinnamon stick

  • Water (1/2 cup to 1 cup — use more if you have larger pieces because it will need to simmer for longer and more water will evaporate)

  • Optional: 1-2 cloves, whole or ground cardamom, nutmeg, star anise, or a pinch of pumpkin spice blend

Directions:

1. Peel the apple(s) or pear(s) and remove the core. 

2. Cut the fruit into bite size pieces, slices or smaller bites, depending on what you like.

3. Add the chopped fruit, water and spices into a pot and cover.

4. Bring to a boil then down to a simmer and cook covered until the fruit is soft when pricked with a fork or knife. 

5. Remove from heat and transfer fruit and liquid to a bowl.

6. Enjoy warm and sip the sweet liquid!
